Regular Meeting

Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Santa Monica Main Library

Martin Luther King Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, California 90401

Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition provides small to mid-size design studios and freelance designers an intuitive and affordable way to create, develop, and deliver iPad apps such as brochures, portfolios, yearbooks or annual reports without writing code. Use InDesign to author layouts, add interactivity, preview and create Folio files. Its newly improved workflow is tailored specifically to meet the needs of designers. Use familiar Adobe InDesign CS6 skills to develop content that inspires and engages.

Diane Burns, co-author of Digital Publishing with Adobe InDesign CS6, will present an overview of DPS and provide a step-by-step guide of the entire app process from working in DPS through dealing with the Apple App Store.

You will learn how to:

  • Conceptualize a strategy before you get started: Design considerations and planning ahead.
  • Set up your InDesign file most efficiently for DPS and using CS6’s new adaptive layout tools.
  • Add interactivity using InDesign’s interactive features along with the Folio Overlays panel for creating hyperlinks, buttons and object states; including audio and video.
  • Set up panoramas, pan and zoom and scrolling text frame effects.
  • Use the Folio Builder panel to assemble your publication and create a .folio file with metadata.
  • Preview your app on the iPad and share with others for review.
  • Manage DPS SE workflow using the App Builder.
